I have two green cheek conures, Boo and Kiwi. I’m gushing about them separately because I recognize that not everyone is as excited about these feathered terrors as I am. Boo came into my life in September of 2013 (I’m ashamed to say he came from a petshop), and Kiwi followed shortly thereafter on New Years Day, by way of a family friend who could no longer give her the attention she so desperately needed. Fast forward six months and they are best friends and partners in crime.
Any parrot, no matter the size, is going to be a lot of work, but these two are absolutely worth every second and I love them more than I can ever describe. If you are considering a bird as a pet, PLEASE ask me questions. If I can’t answer them, I probably know someone who can. If you’re in Denver, The Gabriel Foundation is a great resource for all things parrot-related, and they have a lot of wonderful birds looking for homes. I volunteer there myself as much as I can.
Please consider a donation to your local parrot rescue, and if you think a bird might be for you, a little time volunteering will go a long way to helping you find the right bird. It is a struggle for me not to end up with LOTS of “right” birds….
Last picture, I promise.
